I've been there and back again, and of course the experience has shaped me in big ways and small. If you've been a part of my journey, I hope that experiencing life in Niger through my eyes has shaped you, too. For now I'm living and working in the US, but that doesn't mean that I'm not still connected to Africa. If you'd like to continue to invest in the future of Niger, here are some suggestions:
CURE HOSPITAL
Go to their website, https://cure.org/niger/ and click on Meet Our Kids. You can send a get well message (which will be translated), pray for the kids and receive updates on their healing. You can also support the hospital financially through their website.
CENTRE DE VIE NOUVELLE (NEW LIFE CENTER)
This is the center that my friend Hadiza started in her neighborhood, in order to provide care for children with special needs. In addition to daily operating costs, she's currently raising money in order to buy a van for the center. This would enable her to take the children for medical appointments, but she also wants to be able to take them on outings--to the zoo or a park, for a boat ride, etc. She has worked hard to secure her driver's license, and now she needs the vehicle! If you're interested in donating anywhere between $10-$10,000, please contact me for the organization information.
And please continue to pray for the health and spiritual well-being of the 14 kids and 6 caregivers at the center!
SAHEL ACADEMY
The international school is always hiring teachers and administrators for 1-3 year terms. You can see their current list of needs at http://sahelacademy.com/2.0/staff-needs/. If you can't go yourself, please pray over this list and pray for the incoming students of the upcoming school year.
PRAYER RESOURCES
According to the Joshua Project, the population of Niger is currently over 24 million, and only 1.5% identify as Christian. You can find a prayer guide at https://www.joshuaproject.net/countries/NG. You can also watch a short video and pray along, at https://prayercast.com/niger.html. Finally, you can download or sign up to receive prayer requests from global partners of SIM at https://www.simusa.org/pray-with-us/.
